Gabbi goes Tennis

MY WHY

I began playing tennis when I was five and rarely had a female coach. I teach tennis to demonstrate to young girls that they can not only be a successful player, but also see themselves confidently represented in positions of leadership.

Internalized sexism starts at a very, very young age. I hope to be a part of the movement that begins changing the conversation around how we value women, particularly in sports.

MY BACKGROUND

The majority of my professional career has centered around teaching tennis. I began out of college as an Assistant Pro for the Flagstaff Tennis Program. Upon moving to Boston, I was offered a job as a Tennis Professional and Director of the Red Ball (ages 8 and under) Program with the Longfellow Clubs. I am a Net Generation Coach through the United States Tennis Association and also completed my 10 and Under certification through the Professional Tennis Registry in 2019. I worked as the Red Ball Director for Seth Korey Tennis Academy in Scottsdale, Arizona before moving to San Diego. Presently, I am the Program Manager and Youth Director for the All Court Tennis Academy.

Eleanor, age 5

“Gabbi was a wonderful coach for our young daughter. She is the triple threat! — innovative, inspiring, and caring. Gabbi draws from the most current approaches and has a passion which captures a young one’s interest from the start. Particularly noticeable is a respect for young ones as persons and an ability to connect meaningfully during instruction. Our daughter really appreciated Gabbi’s willingness to communicate technical and strategic aspects while approaching lessons with imaginative play appropriate for the youngest age. Most of all she enjoyed Gabbi’s great enthusiasm, and from that she developed a tremendous joy of her own for the sport.” - parents Eric and Elizabeth

Max, age 9

“Gabbi is a phenomenal coach. She has a lot of patience and great energy which made the lessons very enjoyable for my son. The positive manner in which she teaches is outstanding; it helped to build his confidence and made him fall in love with tennis! The progress that he made working with Gabbi is pretty amazing. Perhaps the best thing about coach Gabbi is her encouragement on top of her great teaching abilities which is so important for kids. Highly recommended!” - mom Yana

Peter and Clara, ages 8 & 10

“I am admittedly selective about the people with whom my children spend time, and I was delighted when Gabbi came into our lives. She is not only a phenomenal coach, but also an amazing person. The kids thrived with her coaching and were always excited for their lessons. Their tennis skills improved significantly as Gabbi had an intuitive sense of how to motivate these two very different children, recognizing their unique needs and learning styles. I also appreciated Gabbi’s ability to capitalize on “teachable moments” (regarding any number of topics!) and to model a positive attitude and kind spirit. I asked the kids what they liked best about Gabbi, and they of course offered that she is “silly and fun.” She is a gifted teacher in the truest sense.” - mom Amanda
